they’re my brothers

*deletes whole introduction because it was from over two months ago* Anyhow, this is part two of my post…duology? in which I rant about why I’m thankful for my friends and why y’all should be thankful for yours too.

Besides a whole lot of brothers and a whole lot of fantastic gal friends, I’ve also been blessed with a whole bunch of great guy friends as well! Having a lot of brothers has helped me both relate to and appreciate these dudes more, and I’m so so thankful for all of them πŸ˜€

A mini side note/rant thing-CAN WE ALL AGREE that romantic highschool relationships are overrated and platonic relationships underrated?!? Yes. Thank you. Great. *is tired of seeing high school relationships not work out* I recently asked one of the college girls in our church how I could strengthen my friendships with these guys and relate to them better and received a very simple piece of advice-treat them like your brothers. Which in retrospect, makes sense, since they might as well be my brothers anyways. At this point I’ve lost count of my brothers and it wouldn’t make any difference πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ So here’s to all my honorary bros πŸ™Œ

Ethan. You’re so tall oh my heck and you give good hugs and you have taught me so much about thankfulness and appreciating your friends.
Noah. Your smile is contagious and I still appreciate you EVEN THOUGH YOU THINK MORNING SHOWERS ARE BETTER THAN EVENING SHOWERS what is this madness. Also you play the organ which is ridiculously cool?!?
the Evan that’s not the other other Evan. From comparing dream motorcycles to recipes to types of dancing, your convos have likely kept me from death by schoolwork this semester.
Gabe, Micah, and Ike. If there ever were any bros more bro than bro πŸ™„ Thanks for all my morning fistbumps.
Ben and Sam…do y’all count because we’re related? no? yeah nvm idc. Hope to see you at Thanksgiving next year because I’ve missed the Sam show πŸ₯£
Arris. Whenever I find a new bro meme, it goes straight to you. Thanks for always being there for me from 950 miles away ✌️
Kyle, Eric, and Ryan (always in that orderΒ πŸ˜‚). Watching you three see snow for the first time is one of my favorite memories ever. I’m gonna miss our soccer games ⚽️
Kana, Peter, Morgan, Jackson, Zane, Honor, Johnny, Brendan, Corey, Gabe, *RANDY*, and the rest of my bros from chdt, thanks for all the laughs, sword fights, nicknames, and loud confused screaming you each get 17 brownie points
Caleb and Jonathan. It’s been so much fun getting to know y’all! Next semester is gonna be weird without the same classmates ngl (also Johnny u running away to Ruhl so that’s not fair)
Spikey Mikey, Jason, John, Dan, and Tyler (accidentally forgets to mention Nathan, Nathan, and Nathan <-yes there are three). Y’all put the fun in family camp oh wait i can’t spell
Ben, Reuben, Saar, Elisha, Cameron, and Lucas. From almost making Julie pull over on the highway, to introducing me to oof remix, y’all made echo a blast πŸ™Œ
Jayden and David. Julie to Joy: “Those two are so funny. I went downstairs and David said to Jayden ‘see i told you it was breakfast time’ and then I said that breakfast was in a few minutes and he said ‘see i told you it wasn’t breakfast time'”. Yeah, that just about sums up you two πŸ˜‚
OH MY DUDES FROM LRCA *sends greetings to senator doyle, legolas, balrog, ambrose, toby, and all the peoples*
i swear i missed some but idk

*yells* send encouragement. and hugs. and invest in friendships. totally worth it.

Talk to me in the comments! What are some valuable lessons that your friends have taught you? What’s your favorite place to spend time with your friends?

    1. They are πŸ˜€ Haha honestly most of them probably made friends with me-I’m not fabulous at making a lot of friends haha! I recommend trying out new experiences-I made so many of these friends from extracurricular activities, summer camps, helping people move in, etc. Praying that God blesses you with good friends ❀

  1. I don’t really know a lot of guys, but I definitely agree with you that the high school relationships are wayyy overrated. Like, how many people ACTUALLY end up together out of high school? I mean, I don’t think you should waste too much of your time with that, instead you should focus on friendships.

  2. Yay for being friends with guys!
From, like, fourth through seventh grade, I refused to be friends with guys and none of the girls I knew wanted to be my friend, so I pretty much had no friends. XD Then in 8th grade I decided to make friends with guys, and now I have several guys I’m decently close to. And I enjoy hanging out with them more than almost any girl I know. XD

  3. Ahh this is so good! Oh my goodness, that advice is so good! THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT! πŸ‘ I have 4 brothers (all significantly younger than me) and so I have a few guy friends who are almost like “older brothers” to me. Great post!

  4. Thank you so much for this post!! Seriously, it’s really nice to hear from another girl who has lots of platonic boy friendships – the majority of my good friends are boys these days, and I feel like all the girls I know are looking at me funny. XD

  5. I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR PART TWO πŸ™Œ I love this!! Yes, romance is overrated and every YA friendship doesn’t need to morph into it. πŸ™ƒ Thanks to the Army I have several “older brothers” who might as well be family and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Personally I have only a couple friends that are boys but I can hold my own with my brothers’ friends (And vice versa with mine)…more people need to know that’s okay. πŸ₯°
So thanks for this and keep it up!!

  6. omw… Izz… I haven’t read you blog in so long. I came today and saw this… I was screaming internally the whole time, Amen-ing you left and right. I know most of these guys (as you know…) and I love them all as much as you do.

…and a comment to everybody who reads through the comments (people like me… i see you). This girl is amazing. She’s my best friend… we were born 17 days apart and have hardly lived a week of our lives without seeing each other. I love her so much… and I hope y’all do too.
